Mind the Lab takes place as part of the Mediterranean Researchers Night and brings science to your way…

Mind the Lab is a breakthrough initiative that brings science to the general public, acts as a science teaser and a powerful tool to attract the interest of the general public, and directs it to science-related channels, such as science festivals. Founded in 2016 by SciCo, it was successfully launched in Athens, Greece, in February 2017.

In 2021, Mind the Lab takes place as part of the Mediterranean Researchers Night which will take place in Lemnos and Crete on September 24, and travels to Lemnos with the aim of making science more attractive to people of all ages. On Friday, June 4, exciting science events will take place at three key locations (stations) of the island: at the City Hall, at Myrina Clock, and at Roman Gialos. This is an opportunity not to be missed by permanent residents and visitors alike!

More specifically…

Station Α: City Hall – Time: 10:00 – 11.30 am
Station’s Name: Knowing the marine ecosystem
Learn about marine ecosystems and the unique natural phenomena they entail! Visitors will have the opportunity to observe everything sea-related including remarkable sea organisms, impressive shells, marine plants, and minerals. They will also be able to watch exciting live experiments.

Station Β: Myrina Clock – Time: 10:00 – 11.30 am
Station’s Name: Water pollution
Ocean acidification and oil spills are the two principal causes of water pollution. Visitors stopping by Myrina’s Clock will be informed about sea pollution through innovative live experiments. In addition, they will be encouraged to take a photo at the nearby photobooth which will portray the most beautiful beaches in Greece.

Station C: Roman Gialos – Time: 10:00 – 11.30
Station’s Name: Scientist for one day
Can you imagine yourself being a scientist for a day? If your answer is yes, then we will be waiting for you at Roman Gialos. Here you will have the chance to take part in an exciting engineering contest and watch live chemistry experiments.

All the Mind the Lab events will take place outdoors and all participants and visitors are required to wear FFP2 masks as well as keeping a safe distance from each other.

Mind the Lab at Lemnos is organized by the educational organization “Science Communication – SciCo”, in collaboration with the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of the University of the Aegean, and with the support of the Municipality of Lemnos.

Mind the Lab brings science in your way…

From Greece to the rest of the world!

Mind the Lab is a breakthrough initiative that brings science to the general public, acts as a science teaser and a powerful tool to attract the interest of the general public, and direct it to science-related channels, such as science festivals.

Mind the Lab was founded by SciCo in 2016. It was piloted across 8 metro stations around Athens, Greece, on the 3rd of February 2017, and attracted more than 10,000 metro passengers (1 out of 10 passengers stopped by to be informed and interact with the exhibits).

In 2018 Mind the Lab will travel across different countries around the world in order to literally bring science in people’s way. Theo Anagnostopoulos, the Co-founder and General Manager of SciCo explains the vision behind Mind the Lab and presents this innovative approach that aims to boost science communication!

Read Theo’s blog post that was published on the 21 st of June 2017, at “Public Understanding of Science BLOG”.
